Despite Intermetal’s prominent position in the global metal market, we have begun to examine the future viability of its growth and expansion strategy. Since the mid-1990′s the global steel industry had begun to show clear signs of a shift. This is due, in part, to rapidly increasing steel production capacity in China, which has transformed the worldwide steel industry and resulted in a handful of truly massive companies.
Intermetal has recognized the difficulty of maintaining the viability of its future expansion plans. This is especially true not only because many observers expected the field to narrow to just five major producers by the middle of this decade, but also because a majority of the world’s raw material production has become concentrated under the control of only few groups.
